Blackout...
|
Well... I have to admit, that black out really put things into perspective. Toronto was pretty hard hit, with TIG Toronto being totally shut down Thursday afternoon and all of Friday. It was really nice to see how calm and collected everyone was. Everyone was being friendly, and courteous. All of the staff came to my place for a relaxing time of football, soccer and basketball. Most staff braved it North, while some staff stayed for dinner (using a camping stove) and two stayed over-night!
We went for a walk and could see the stars... It was amazing to see them, where normally I would only ever see that up North. I loved every minute of the blackout :)

Fire! a real one, but...
|
So... right across the street from me there is a fire. No, I'm not kidding, there are 6 fire-trucks and 1 marshal. I feel pretty bad for those people, since we know them. I am still unsure at this point if anyone was in the house, but I don't believe so. There are a lot of people gathering around and it's a little weird. Now... let it be known that I could smell smoke. We don't have a blazing thing going and I can't see any flames. There is no danger to anyone.
That was just some background.
I guess I have a little venting to do. I was taking short movie clips of the area and the trucks. The street was filled with smoke, so it looked really cool with the smoke and the lights going... a good picture. I was on my lawn behind a fence, so in no was I affecting the fire service (people were walking by me on the sidewalk) and so I decide to go over and take a shot of the water going from the hydrant to the pumper truck. I'm just finishing the clip and this guy comes up to me.
"Are you from the fire-marshal’s office?"
"No..." I obviously reply.
"Did you take photos of the scene?" he asks
"Yeah" (well duh, I have a camera in my hands.. am I taking a photo of the tree at 11:30 pm at night...?)
"Delete them now!" he says in a very stern voice.
I'm taken aback and so I delete them...
"Out of curiosity, why did you want me to delete them?" I ask, since I still don't understand
"We're sensitive..."
He walks away, I walk away wanting to take a 2x4 to his head.
I guess I'm confused and shocked that he would ask me to do this... no, wait, DEMAND me to do this. I mean, media does this all the time, they film/photograph dead people all the time, fires, just the other day there were bloody photos of Saddam's sons on the front of the paper. I mean... that's gross. My photos were of a fire truck and a house virtually covered by trees. The owners of the house (who I know) are nowhere in sight, so I'm not affecting them... who the fire truck (get it, haha) does he think he was. I mean, he worked with the fire dept... that was obvious, but he was sitting his big butt in the truck doing nothing at all.
What I was doing was obviously legal and was in no was impeding their work, so WTF??
Okay... I feel better now... sorta...
